That is who R3 is, what we do, and who we do it for….

This is my first post since joining R3 Business Solutions.  As many of you know I’ve spent the last 11 years founding and building CorasWorks.  Over the last couple of years, I drove the development of a targeted business of solutions for Federal Government Contractors (GovCon).  The GovCon industry consists of about 10,000 companies delivering $500 Billion in products and services to the US Federal Government (and a lot more to State and Local government).

At CorasWorks, we spent many years developing and serving the broad horizontal market within the SharePoint ecosystem.  However, I felt that the highest value proposition would be to apply the CorasWorks solution approach to a focused industry market.  So, we entered the Federal Government Contractor market with partners and industry specific, purpose-built solutions.  Over the last 2 years it was the fastest growing part of our business.

R3 Business Solutions has been a key partner of CorasWorks for the last 5 years, delivering business solutions leveraging CorasWorks on SharePoint.  Over the last 2 years, R3 was instrumental in leading CorasWorks into the Federal Government Contractor space and building up an ecosystem of GovCon partners and customers.  I’ve joined R3 to accelerate the momentum of R3 and the GovCon ecosystem around our new approach.

The Challenges of GovCon Participants

The GovCon industry is big and hugely competitive.  Years ago a contractor could relie on the “old boy network”.  Not any more.  The business acquisition process has become operationalized lead by the continuous use of IDIQ task orders.  The ability to respond rapidly with innovative solutions, top value but always lowest cost, is driving success.  In delivery, the scrutiny and demands of delivery is just getting greater.  There are few cushy contracts and the threat of re-competes is constant.

In sum, competition is red hot and the basis of competition is shifting to operational efficiency.

Now, given the legacy situation, what you find is that the average GovCon participant is trying to get the work done with old school tools.  Much of their work is information worker based.  The GovCon industry probably has the highest density of information workers of any industry.  Yet, they often are working with siloed legacy systems, manual systems using file shares, spreadsheets, and email, or, vastly overspending on custom development often trying to do it with SharePoint.

This situation of the average GovCon is not all that unusual from other industries.  But, to be competitive, these companies are simply going to have to move to the new level of efficiency.

R3 Leads the Game Change

With R3, we are bringing to GovCon a better way to work.  We are providing the next generation of business software that blends the best parts of off-the-shelf software and customization.  Our approach of off-the-shelf, industry specific, purpose-built solutions running on the Open Application Platform of CorasWorks on SharePoint is simply changing the costs and competitive ability of companies in the GovCon space.

Many companies in the space have adopted SharePoint.  R3 has served many over the years.  Most use native SharePoint for Intranets.  Some have moved to the next level to leverage SharePoint for internal business applications.  However, as they start to get serious about business applications, they have often gone down the road of custom development because that was really their only option.  There was no choice of industry specific, off-the-shelf solutions on SharePoint.

Now, each GovCon participant can get purpose-built, off-the-shelf solutions for a fraction of the cost, and, that are able to be customized and enhanced by you the customer to meet ongoing needs.  The result is many organizations that couldn’t afford to buy or build the business critical systems can now do so.  And, those organizations that have gone down the custom development path or have relied on legacy systems are now switching to R3 solutions.
